Welcome back to the Second term!!!!

It is hard to believe that Pesach is already so far behind us as we move forward towards Lag Ba'Omer and then of course Shavuos!!!

We are concentrating on the stories of Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai in connection with Lag Ba'Omer. During one of first rings learning about Rabbi Akiva, the children were asked what shepards do, to which some of the children answered,"they shep!!!!"

We have done some crafts relating to Lag Ba'Omer and of course count the Omer every day, adding a new flower to "Har Sinai" when we do so. We have discussed what is prohibited to do during the Omer.

In connection to the Omer we are also concentrating on numbers this term. We are learning to recognise numbers and explaining basic number concepts.

We will also be concentrating on Body Image this term. We have already moved on from drawing just faces to now drawing faces with bodies and arms and legs. We are almost all drawing arms and legs coming out of our body and not our head now...a wonderful accomplishment!!! Please remember to look at the children's work in their individual folders on the wall ,as they are updated constantly!!!

We have also been drawing beautiful pictures of Har Sinai with flowers!!!

Autumn and the seasons is also on our agenda and we have had lots of fun discussing what activities can be done in each season!!!

We are working on our cutting and tracing skills too. The children traced their arrows for Lag Ba'Omer and then cut them out themselves, all doing as great job, before painting them!!!

We had a really exciting Aleph Bais treasure Hunt(see Pictures)!!!!
We have begun more formal Aleph Bais learning where the children will learn the letters in a one-on-one with me from a book and we look forward to moving forward at a steady pace PG!!!

As you can see we are very busy and having a really fun time at school, and we have not even mentioned soccer-fever which has hit our class. The children(especially the boys)love taking the soccer ball out during outside time and enjoy kicking (and throwing) the ball!!!! We will be beginning our "Soccer" Project soon, incorporating it into the concept of Ahavas Yisroel and how all different countries will come together to play together etc.!!!

Looking forward to hearing your feedback and if there is anything you need to discuss, please feel free to contact me!!!

Morah Nadine.

Aleph Bais treasure hunt!!!!

This week, we had a very special treasure hunt inorder to introduce Aleph Bais in a more formal way. The letters of the Aleph Bais were put into a box and the children went on a treasure hunt to find the box!!!

Yay.....we found it!!!!!

This is the page that we drizzled honey on to!!!

We then opened the box and found all the letters of the Aleph Bais which we laid out on the floor while singing Aleph Bais songs.

We then drizzled honey over the letters on a page and the children each got their own stick to come and dip into the honey, and to taste how sweet the Aleph Bais is!!!!!

Experiential learning about Pesach...

In order to bring Pesach to life, before going on to the playground yesterday, the Morahs explained that there would be a sensory table out with sand and water for the children to build bricks, just like the Yidden had to in Mitzrayim!

The children loved the experience. They worked together with Morah Adie's class, enhancing the depth of the experience. Here are snippets from the conversation that ensued between the 2 classes...

Morah: What are you building?
Batya Stern and Aviel: The Beis Hamikdash.
Eitan: This is the wet sand to make bricks.
Morah: Who made bricks?
Eitan: The Yidden.
Morah: Who told them to?
Eitan: Pharaoh.
Zahara: Because King Pharaoh made them work very hard.

Morah: What are you building now?
Zahara: A mountain. This is Ha Sinai (pointing to a smaller mountain) and this is the big mountain.
Asher:Look what we made!
Adin: My name is Adin. My surname is Avraham.
Zahara: My name is Zahara. My surname is Leah.

Berel: That's the watery sandpit.
Zahara: When I grow up I'm going to be a queen.
Aaron: When I grow up I'm gonna be a policeman with a gun! A real gun.
Zahara: But only shoot not real families just bad people.
Aaron: I'm gonna shoot Pharaoh.
Zahara: And Haman and all the Mitzrim.
Elisheva: Not Haman!
Zahara: Yes because he wants to kill all the Jews.
Yaakov Akiva: And he wants the Jews to bow down to him.
Aaron: Hashem doesn't want anyone to die?
Zahara: Only the Mitzrim!

Morah Nadines class has a Tu'b'Shvat seder!

In honour of Tu B Shvat, Morah Nadine brought in the shivas haminim- 7 special fruits of Eretz Yisroel for the children to taste!
While the grapes were loved by all... some of the fruits such as figs and dates were tasted for the first time by the children! Their facial expressions really gave away whether they liked them!
With each fruit the children discussed its origin and what it can be used for eg: grapes for wine and olives for oil! The children used ALL of their senses for this experience; smell, taste, touch, hearing and seeing!
